Fostering is a very important step for these rescues. Most of them have been starving, abandoned, and/or abused. They need to learn how to except love and care, most likely be potty/crate trained and possibly nursed back to health. These animals are the most loving and grateful rescues. They are just looking for the right family/person to give them a chance at a new life. Someone to show them patience and love so that they can be the perfect forever pet for there forever family.
When fostering with AAOFUS the foster animal is provided with food and any medical care needed, the foster parent just provides love, care and a place for the foster to live.

Animal advocates of the US (AAOFUS) is a 100% volunteer organization. We are always looking for new and dedicated members to add to our team. Although AAOFUS is always looking for people to help in Mexico at kennels and events they are aware that not everyone has the ability to travel across the border. Some of the tasks that need assistance are but not limited to…
Food transporter: This job is to collect food from donating stores and drop it off at the co-founders home (so it can be distributed to foster family’s and Mexico) or taken directly to Mexico. This job is perfect for someone that is 18 or older, has a valid drivers license, can lift several large bags of dog or cat food (approximately 60lb) and has reliable transportation.
Event coordinator: This volunteer would set up fundraisers and awareness campaigns. This job is perfect for someone that is a go getter, organized, someone that has great people skills and someone that is able to donate at least one weekend a month to a event.
Kennel workers: Although all of the volunteer work with AAOFUS is greatly appreciated this job takes a very special person. This job involves traveling to Mexico, cleaning kennels, supplying food and water, showing the animals at the perrera how it feels to be cared for, and assisting in caring for sick or injured animals. This job is perfect for someone with a big heart that can emotionally handle seeing suffering animals and someone with a proper passport.
Volunteer coordinator/supervisor: AAOFUS works with court ordered volunteers with miner offences and volunteers that dedicated for personal satisfaction. This job is for someone that can manage people, is organized, works well with others, is comfortable e-mailing, is willing to advertise volunteer programs and can work as a team.
Vet/Vet assistant: This job is perfect for someone that is a vet, is going to veterinarian school, or someone that is interested in assisting a vet. This job would require a passport, willingness to travel to Mexico, someone that is qualified to perform spay and neuters or can assist in spay and neuters, someone that is comfortable seeing sick and injured animals and someone that is comfortable giving vaccinations and medications to the animal via injection. This position requires no vet experience, we will train basic medical care. |

JULIE AND MAYA
I have always been crazy for animals and have taken in many over the years. When my husband, Dennis and I got married we had to rent a house because we both had animals. In June '04 I saw a flier for and thought we might foster since we would be home for the summer. My son, Kevin, was 10 at that time and wanted a chihuahua (we had large dogs at home) and found one on the internet. Turns out the dog we saw on the web was the one who needed fostering! We ended up adopting Tito after having so much fun with a small dog (he went everywhere). Two years later we fostered again and we got Oka, a crippled spaniel mix with 4 teeth whom we absolutely adore and ended up keeping her! Next came Maya, a long haired chihuahua who added a lot of "life" in our dog family. After the fires in San Diego in '07 I decided to help by fostering.
We have been fostering furiously ever since, placing over 80 dogs and cats. It has been the most rewarding experience of my life, seeing the animals becoming comfortable in their new environment (most come from horrible conditions) and hearing from the adopters who love their new "family members."

CAT
In this life we cannot do great things, only small things with great love.”
–Mother Theresa
Cat embodies Mother Theresa's spirit by volunteering her time and giving her love to the small things in our world that need help. She moved to southern California in 2007 and has fostered about 15 dogs so far because she loves nurturing them and preparing them for their forever homes. She enjoys seeing them blossom into happy, healthy, well-adjusted pets. She also volunteers at the county shelter a few times a week.

LISA
"The love of all creatures is the most noble attribute of man"
---
Charles Darwin
Lisa has worked with several non-profit animal welfare groups and shelters in San Diego, over the years. Her family has fostered over 50 dogs (not all at one time!) She feels that fostering is a tangible way to help animals in need. It is rewarding to place a dog into its forever home, enhancing human lives as well! |

WENDY ADOPTED!
Wendy was rescued from the perrera in Tijuana. She was dumped there with her new born puppies, and was waiting to be put down after her puppies were put down.
