GINNY'S STORY
What Drives Ginny Our Food Drive Volunteer?
"I avoided vacationing in places where street dogs are cats begged for food or searched the dumps for scraps. I couldn't enjoy myself shopping or eating at the restaurants or driving though the neighborhoods where starving, sick or abandoned street dogs or cats desperately begged for scraps, often with puppies. Then one day, I learned about the wonderful work Animal Advocates of the U.S. does feeding more than 300 street dogs and cats a day in Mexico. I felt hopeful, and I wanted to help. So, I volunteered to help with the Food Drive Program.
I call stores, friends, neighbors and relatives for broken bags or extra bags or cans of dog or cat food. Most people want to help and find they can afford giving a bag of dog or cat food once a month, or they donate money, where $1.00 can feed 10 adult dogs.
I pick up the dog or cat food and deliver the food to Animal Advocate of the U.S. storage. Then Animal Advocates volunteers drive the food to Mexico where they feed the unwanted street dogs and cats temporarily sheltered at the Mexican dog pounds in Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali.
My heart is uplifted knowing that many street dogs and cats will have a full stomach tonight. I encourage anyone who wants to help with our Food Drive Program to join us."
